What is 3G?

What is 3G?

3G stands for third generation wireless telephone technology. It enhances the service experience such as high speed mobile broadband, internet access, video streaming and much more on your mobile phone. With a 3G phone and access to the Vodafone 3G network you can make video calls, watch live TV and access the high speed internet.
  • It is based on an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) initiative for a single global wireless standard called International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000).
  • This concept of a single standard evolved into a family of five 3G wireless standards; and in late 2007, a sixth 3G standard was included. Of those six, the most widely adopted are CDMA2000® and WCDMA (UMTS).
  • According to the ITU, a wireless standard must meet minimum speed requirements to be considered 3G and 3G technologies must provide high-speed Internet broadband data access comparable to a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and / or a cable modem in a mobile setting.

2G vs 3G

1G networks are analogue, 2G are digital and 3G are used to enhance mobile phone standards.
3G helps to simultaneously transfer both voice data (a telephone call) and non-voice data (such as downloading information, e-mails and instant messaging).

What all can you do with 3G

  • Real time face to face Video calling
  • Live TV on mobile
  • HD gaming
  • Connect to internet with faster speeds
  • Real time streaming of music & videos
  • Faster email exchange with large attachments
  • Data Security
