MTNL 20 MBPS VDSL broadband internet launched

MTNL VDSL Broadband, the fastest fixed line broadband internet service in India, has been launched in Mumbai. MTNL’s VDSL (Very High Bitrate DSL) offers a download speed of up to 20 MBPS.

Airtel’s 16 MBPS broadband was India’s fastest internet connection so far – with the VSSL, MTNL now offers India’s fastest broadband Internet connection.
MTNL’s VDSL Combo plan offers 18 GB of free downloads on a monthly rental of Rs 9,000. The company said that the new VDSL service is targeted at businesses and corporate houses, who can use it as a backup for their internet lease lines.
For MTNL VDSL Combo, above the 18 GB, users will have to pay additional charges of 50 paisa per MB. There are no free calls, and the call charges will be as per the One India plan.
To subscribe to MTNL’s VDSL broadband internet Mumbai, one also has to pay upfront modem charges of Rs 3000 and installation charges (for existing customers only) at Rs 2,000.
VDSL is an advanced DSL technology, which can be used for services like IPTV, HDTV and VoIP. The VDSL standard was globally approved in 2001.
MTNL is the biggest broadband service provider in Mumbai, serving over four lakh customers. After launching the 20 MBPS VDSL plan, MTNL also has plans to launch 50 MBPS super-high-speed broadband internet in India. This too will make use of VDSL technology, and will be targeted at enterprises rather than retail users. For this purpose, MTNL is planning to upgrade its ADSL network to a VDSL network. The highest data transfer speeds will be available within one kilometre radius of the MTNL telephone exchange.
MTNL is also offering Triband broadband services in New Delhi and Mumbai. MTNL is one of the only operators in India (the other being BSNL), which has launched 3G services. The government allotted 3G spectrum to companies owned by itself – MTNL and BSNL – ahead of the 3G spectrum auction which is scheduled for January 2010. MTNL also operates Garuda and Trump mobile services.

MTNL free society intercom phone service in Mumbai

MTNL Mumbai has started a ‘society intercom’ plan for its landline telephone users. With this plan, you can use the MTNL landline phone in your house as an intercom phone to connect to other MTNL users in the same housing society, free of charge.
To make use of the MTNL intercom phone plan, there must be at least five MTNL users, who become part of a closed user group. There are two schemes for the MTNL society intercom scheme, one for existing MTNL users, and one for new users.

Existing MTNL landline (fixed phone) users do not have to pay any registration charges, installation charges or security deposit. One additional landline will be provided free of cost. This will be an incoming calls-only phone. The monthly fixed charges for this phone will be Rs 50 a month. The society can choose to keep at the society watchman’s room. Also, one MTNL phone in this intercom group (which may be kept in the society office) gets 50 calls free. So effectively, the Rs 50 you pay for the incomings-only phone is balanced out by the free calls on another phone. You can make and receive unlimited free intercom calls.
New MTNL users who wish to avail of the society intercom plan must pay a security deposit of Rs 500, which is refundable. They get a new landline with free incoming calls, and unlimited intercom calls at Rs 100 a month.
MTNL users who had surrendered their MTNL connection are also eligible to get one connection under the Society Plan loyal (free intercom), if they revive their old MTNL landline under any existing landline plan (other than Society Plan), said MTNL. They can get their old number for this new connection, if it is not already in use. These customers will get one extra MTNL Centrex connection under same terms and conditions which are described above for Society Plan – Loyal.
MTNL said on its website that it can also provide broadband internet facility on the same landline, on customer request. More details on the MTNL free society intercom service can be obtained by calling the MTNL call centre at 1500 from an MTNL phone or 022-22221500 from any phone.
The MTNL free society intercom plan will benefit new societies which other have to spend thousands to install a closed user group for the intercom system. This will also benefit those societies where there is a large number of MTNL fixed landline users.
